Brutal murder of Dr Chamberlain leaves a void

Dear Editor,

Dr Phil Maxwell Chamberlain, well-known radiologist, came to Mandeville at the dawn of the new millennium and established MRIS, the Mandeville Radiology and Imaging Services. He was like the Good Samaritan, coming at a time of greatest need to provide a wide range of the most valuable diagnostic and imaging services.

The practice of medicine is a team effort and Dr Chamberlain and his staff were among the key players in this region. The diagnostic services provided at MRIS were always the current trend in technology. These helped to maintain the highest standards in the management of patients and were of tremendous benefit to a wide range of patients, relatives, nurses and doctors in the parishes of Manchester, St Elizabeth, Clarendon, Trelawny and St Ann.

Dr Chamberlain worked long hours and could be called on at any time and at odd hours of the night to perform lifesaving diagnostic procedures, especially brain scans for head injuries from motor vehicle collisions or other causes. This was because he had a great passion for his work. He was industrious and meticulous and could always be relied on for precision and accuracy.

It is truly regrettable that the life of this valuable citizen was cut short by a brutal murder. Genuine, principled and sincere are words which correctly describe this doctor whose work helped to save the lives of hundreds of patients.

It is a great loss for the medical fraternity. Sincere condolence to his family, friends and the staff at MRIS. Dr Chamberlain is surely and sorely missed.
