BUSINESSMAN Ryan Singh’s roots are firmly planted in Clarendon. His family have made a

name in the parish as entertainment entrepreneurs.

Their latest venture is the multifaceted Moby’s complex in May Pen, the parish capital.

The facility houses a recording studio, bar and grill, and swimming pool.

Singh told the Jamaica Observer that Moby’s main aim is to bring clean family entertainment to May Pen and neighbouring communities.

“We specialise in family entertainment such as swimming lessons, hosting parties, birthday or otherwise and giving young talent a chance to shine,” said Singh.

Moby’s has been around for one year and, according to Singh, the company has lived up to its word.

“It will be clean quality entertainment. We don’t deal with profanity in no way, shape or form. You won’t hear anything coming out of Moby’s that’s not fit for airplay,”

he said.

Singh added that already

he has seen some positive

spin-offs for May Pen nightlife.

“There was a time when there was no cool spot to hang out on a Friday evening, but now we have a full house at

the weekly karaoke sessions,” he stated.

Upcoming artistes have also benefited from the recording studio which opened in March. Moby’s staff accepts CDs or demos, assesses them and if they are up to scratch, contact the aspirants with a possibility of recording them.

Singh’s family has lived in Clarendon for four generations. They are originally from the district of Vere and were involved in mining, supplying bauxite companies with limestone.

They are no strangers to music or the entertainment business.

“My mother plays the piano, my father used to collect a lot of records and my uncle Courtney Singh is the owner of Bodyguard sound system,” Ryan Singh explained.

Since Moby’s studio opened, Singh has released a number of projects including the Children Cry rhythm featuring Sizzla,

as well as his own artistes,

Sort Out, Israel Yadalty, and Gemini. The latter is a past Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall contestant.

Recently, the label released The System, a six-song EP by singer Cashew.

Clarendon has a rich legacy in terms of producing artistes, such as Toots Hibbert,

Derrick Morgan, Freddie McGregor, Cocoa Tea, and Barrington Levy.

Ryan Singh is hoping to maintain that proud tradition through Moby’s.
