One In A

A virgin to The Rock, R & B songstress and actress Christina Milian is loving her first visit to our fair isle. The gorgeous, curvaceous Milian — who just renewed her contract for another season on the hit NBC reality series, The Voice — is here for a photo shoot with B3 Caribbean Magazine for their September issue. The shoot is no mere coincidence as Milian’s Caribbean connection extends to her Cuban parents and her agent being Jamaican. In-between photo sessions and being treated to true Jamaican hospitality, Milian was gracious to entertain SO’s questions.

How has the trip to Jamaica been? What has been the highlight?

It’s my first time here but it’s been amazing. The sun, the people, the water. Going to Rick’s and watching my friends jump off the cliff was a lot of fun. But riding the catamaran and having a REAL dolphin encounter was incredible! We turned the boat around, watched them swim around in the waves, and they even swam right next to us.

How did the photo shoot with B3 Caribbean Magazine come about and what has your experience been shooting for the feature?

My agent, April King at WME, is from Jamaica and knows Claire at the magazine. She called me one day and asked if I was interested in doing a cover shoot in Jamaica and said I could bring my family. I was immediately excited and said yes! It was smooth sailing from there. The B3 team was great! Beyond the photo shoot they made it the ultimate experience. While out on the shoot, they also gave us a taste of Jamaica, taking us to an authentic Jamaican restaurant. The glam team was amazing as well, so I felt right at home while getting ready for my shoot.

What’s up with your music career? Can we expect anything new soon?

I just got signed to Young Money by Lil’ Wayne, Baby and Mack. I’m really excited with the material that I’m working on. It’s awesome and really represents a free, fun me. A single is coming soon.

What’s it like working on The Voice? Are you on board for the new season?

It’s great. I’m on for next season and have been shooting already. I love working with the stars of the show and the artists on the show inspire me.

Who is your favourite judge on the show?

I love them all. But I must say Blake Shelton is a very candid and fun guy.

What are your style must-haves?

Anything that has bright colours. Cover-ups for the summer. Stuff I can wear to the beach and club. Things that are exotic and sexy… and a great pair of heels.

Are there any plans for more films in the pipeline?

Not yet. The Voice, my album and designing my swimwear takes a lot of my time. I did a collection for “Nicolita” Swimwear called Havana Nights. We launch in 2013, but we just had our fashion show in Miami and it’s already a success.

The Voice is up for an Emmy for Outstanding Reality Competition next month. Will you be attending the show?

I hope so. The show has made me feel very much a part of that nomination, so I’d love to attend and support.

Can you tell us at who you’ll be wearing to the Emmys?

Sorry, I don’t know yet.

Do you ever think about what critics will say when you’re choosing your red carpet looks?

I definitely think about it, but at the end of the day I like to do me and take chances.

If you weren’t in the entertainment business, what other profession would you be in?

Hmm, I have no idea. I couldn’t see me ever doing anything NOT in entertainment. I was born for this. I love it.
