Out-of-contract Jamaican forward Ricardo Fuller is currently receiving interest from English Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.

Although nothing official has been reported, the news has gone down well with the ‘Owls’ fans who believe he would be a great addition to their outfit.

Wednesday finished second in last season’s League One competition and was promoted to the Championship — English football’s second tier.

However, some fans say signing Ricardo Fuller is too good to be true and have shrugged it off as a rumour, while others are awaiting official word from the club’s executive.

On the club’s official fans website, www.owlstalk.co.uk, some fans are insisting that he (Fuller) has been offered a deal, but others have downplayed the news and are content to wait on something official.

The 32-year-old striker who was released by English Premier League (EPL) side Stoke City at the end of last season following five years at the club, also received brief interest from Wigan, Cardiff and Ipswich in recent weeks.

Ipswich boss, Paul Jewell, enquired about Fuller earlier in the summer, with the Jamaican believed to be interested by a return to the club where he enjoyed a brief loan spell in 2006.

However, it is understood that more recent talks have fallen flat once figures are discussed, because Jewell signed a number of big name players on big wages last season, who did not give value for money.

As a result, the Ipswich boss backed out of the deal and decided to stick with his wage valuation and is now attempting to build a young squad.

Cardiff and Wigan were also monitoring the striker, but Wigan, who barely survived the Premier League last season, are expecting the striker to move down in division for the coming season.

Fuller made just one league start at Stoke City this season and is seeking a fresh start having grown frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities.

He has slipped behind the pecking order behind Peter Crouch, Cameron Jerome, Jonathan Walters and Kenwyne Jones.

However, Stoke boss Tony Pulis admitted it was a sad day when Fuller left, describing the hitman as one of the club’s finest ever players.

“Whatever happens with Ric, he has been one of the best players to have ever represented this club,” Pulis said.
