H’View-BT classic heralds midweek RSPL
IT kicked off with the regular Sunday games, then the introduction of the Monday Night games. Now it’s on to the first set of Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) midweek matches which pits leaders Harbour View versus Boys’ Town in the feature game at 7:00 pm at the Compound.
With the six games split over two days, the other matches on today are: Montego Bay United vs Portmore United; Humble Lion vs Savannah FC and Tivoli Gardens vs Highgate.
Having played in the Monday Night game, both Sporting Central Academy and Cavalier will play tomorrow against Waterhouse and Arnett Gardens, respectively.
Harbour View, who climbed atop the league on goal difference on 10 points following their 3-0 demolition of Highgate United, face old foes Boys’ Town, in fifth spot, but only a point behind on nine points in what is expected to be an intriguing game.
Champions Portmore United, in ninth on four points, travel to Catherine Hall in St James to play a Montego Bay United outfit which is a point behind in 11th and looking to kick-start their season.
Surprise package Savannah FC, who are joint leaders with 10 points, but effectively fourth on goal difference, host a hungry Humble Lion aggregation struggling in 10th place with three points.
The promoted Savannah, with victories over Portmore United, Harbour View and Cavalier, eked out a 1-1 draw against Waterhouse last Sunday and their confidence should be sky high knowing they can compete with the big boys.
After a promising 2011-2012 season, Humble Lion have started dismally, losing three of their four games — a fact coach Lenworth Hyde blames on a late pre-season, and expectations are that the Clarendon team will get going soon and Savannah could feel their wrath.
Meanwhile, former champions Tivoli Gardens, in sixth place with seven points, will be aiming to stay in touch with the leaders when they host struggling Highgate United who are on two points.
The games which were affected by the inclement weather last Sunday has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 18, with Humble Lion hosting Tivoli at Effortville at 3:30 and Arnett playing Portmore at Ferdie Neita, starting at 7:00 pm.
