GUITARIST, composer and educator Seretse Small is charting a new course.

Come November, he will be hosting a new television show called The Business of Music which will be aired on Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) on Sundays at 5:30 pm

The show, according to Small, intends to focus on music as a business.

“It is going to be a panel discussion. We are also going to be showcasing talents. We’ll be showcasing people who have a product. So, if you don’t have something to sell, you can’t get on the show,” Small told the Jamaica Observer.

Small — who, after over three decades, announced he had retired from active performance last June, said the programme intends to cover a wide range of music-related topics.

“We’re going to cover topics such as touring, major record deals, sex in the music industry, drugs in the music industry. We’re going to take a look at radio promotions, publicity, payola. Those kind of things,” he continued.

Small said production for the new show begins this weekend.

“We’re shooting 13 episodes per day,” he said.

The guitarist said he is also seeking co-hosts for the show.

Previously performing with Seretse & Friends, Small’s music is a fusion of reggae, rock, jazz, classical guitar and Latin style.

Has taught jazz and guitar at the Edna Manley School of Music in St Andrew as well as headed his own music department at the EXED Community College in

St Andrew.
