TRAINER Patrick Lynch had one of his best days ever on Wednesday last with a spanking triple, Flutist in the fifth, Perfect Flyer in the sixth and Herbious Corpus in the nightcap.

Popularly known as ‘Wacky’ Lynch, the well-liked conditioner started his triple run when Flutist, ridden by Omar Walker, took the lead in a maiden three-year-old event over 1,820 metres and held on quite well to score by a length and a half.

Perfect Flyer got home with Aaron Chatrie quite easily, while Herbious Corpus (Dick Cardenas) had little to do in the Track Price Plus ‘Dig Out’ handicap.

Performances like that of Lynch are difficult to achieve and when they happen the achievement must be hailed. Lynch probably sits in the middle of the trainers’ rank. Based on winners and money earned he cannot be considered as one of our top trainers. He has paid his dues in the industry and with a middle-sized stable of horses, Lynch has developed into a really good conditioner as confirmed by his Wednesday triple.

In a previous Raceday Review column note was made for punters to follow the fortunes of the Gary Subraite-trained Brilliant Lad. Well if readers wanted any confirmation, they got it with a sparkling 59 seconds run over 1,000 metres round. Well handled by apprentice Renardo McNaughton, Brilliant Lad is quietly developing into quite a run on sprinter, middle distance colt. Continue to watch his progress in the Overnight Allowance class. Peter Lawson, owner of Brilliant Lad must be a happy man.

As this writer continues to pay special attention to the progress of the juveniles, this review would not be complete without mentioning the truly remarkable run of Uncle Taf, trained by Owen Sharpe and ridden by Omar Walker. The manner in which Uncle Taf ‘sprouted wings’ according to race commentator Brian ‘Spuddy’ Rickman, was something to behold.

After being somewhat fractious before the start, it was not surprising that the chestnut colt was slowly out and raced quite a distance behind leader This Is It. Then we had the final furlong and a burst which is rarely seen by a two-year-old. Definitely one to watch!
