SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth – Keith Wellington, principal of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) is to challenge the president of the St Elizabeth Football Association, Patrick Malcolm in elections set for this Saturday, October 13.

Malcolm has led the association since 2008 when he took over from the late Courtney Brown who died suddenly in March of that year.

Wellington told the Jamaica Observer Central that should he and his proposed executive be elected, “we will be making great efforts to improve how football is administered in the parish, the standard of playing, coaching and refereeing, funding of the leagues, communication between clubs and the rate of development of players and clubs”.

When contacted by telephone on Saturday, Malcolm said the challenge was simply a manifestation of the democratic process at work.

“Let the democratic process take place,” he said. “For me I’ll say let the activity take place and let the chips fall where they may,” he added.

Nominations for the St Elizabeth FA executive closed on Friday.
