FROME, Westmoreland — Savannah Sports Club are still licking their wounds after they were torn apart by Humble Lion, 2-1, in their NPL Wednesday’s encounter at Frome Sporting Complex.

Shauntel Mundle sent his team ahead in the 7th minute and Jermaine Christian doubled the score in 15th, while substitute Jessie Meyler’s 80th-minute penalty gave the home team its consolation.

Savannah, who got off to an auspicious start in the competition with three consecutive wins, came into Wednesday’s game with hopes of changing their recent slide which saw them drawing with Waterhouse, then losing to Tivoli Gardens and Sporting Central Academy.

But the Lenworth ‘Teacha’ Hyde-conditioned players had other intentions and from referee Wilverglen Lamey blew the first whistle, the Clarendon-based team went on the prowl for the opening goal.

They did not have to wait long as Mundle netted a ball he pounced upon which was kindly pushed into his path by goalkeeper Gavine Barrett from a ferocious shot he found too hot to handle.

The goal muted the Westmoreland fans who had jampacked the facility that was illuminated by floodlights. This resulted in the second goal eight minutes after the first when Christian collected a ball and turned spectacularly before unleashing a powerful left-footer from outside the box.

After the break Savannah forced a penalty which was scored by Meyler.
