Elite Styling

Your Under The Dryer team is at the newly opened Central Plaza-located Elite Beauty salon. The interior is impressive and inviting with its brightly coloured modern décor. We take you inside for an exclusive peek and share the skills of the stylists and barber.

Clients: Tameka Kildare, Mark Ward, Anasha Williams and Ryan McMorris.

A Mixture of Flips

Tameka Kildare, student styled by Andrienne Francis

The debate continues amongst stylists about the use of a single hair product line to style and treat their clients. Francis insists that it’s okay to mix products as the needs of each client are very different and are sometimes not fulfilled by using the entire product line of a single brand. Kildare’s hair, for example, was extremely dry and needed products that were high in moisture.

Steps:

• Relax the hair with Affirm Conditioning Creme Relaxer with Protecto.

• Balance the hair’s natural pH by cleansing it with Creme of Nature Neutralizing & Conditioning Shampoo.

• Nourish and further replenish the hair with Creme of Nature Neutralizing Conditioner.

• Cleanse the hair with Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo.

• Mist the hair with Creme of Nature Argan Oil Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner, then flat-wrap with the assistance of a paddle brush.

• Sit under the dryer until the hair dries completely.

• Add rows of blond, brown and red hair extensions to the front of the hair.

• Style the hair by using a curling iron.

Razor Sharp

TRENDALERT

Though ‘the fade’ has been around for decades, this trend is still a musthave for most men. With an experienced barber like Paul, you will be sure to get a textbook quality look.

Curls Galore

Anasha Williams, after-care teacher styled by Yvonne Belnavis

For the woman who doesn’t mind treating herself to a weekly visit to the salon, relaxed hair with playful flips is an ideal choice. This hairdo has a firm hold so she would only need to tease the curls to rejuvenate the look in the morning.

Will the heat from the iron damage my hair?

Curling your hair every morning can cause damage by making it brittle or dry. Using a ceramic flat iron may lessen the effects rather than the Marcel curling irons. However, be sure to give your hair a break from the heat every once in a while and protect it with humidity-blocking hair products.

Steps:

• Process the new growth with Optimum Care Salon Collection Relaxer — Super.

• Balance the natural pH of the hair by applying Optimum Opti Neutralizing Shampoo and Conditioner as directed.

• Cleanse the hair with TRESemmé Silk Protein Healthy Volume Shampoo.

• Apply TRESemmé Vitamin E Moisture Rich Conditioner to the hair.

• Mist the hair with Optimum Care Oil Therapy and Optimum Advanced High Gloss Spray.

• Flat-wrap the hair.

• Sit under the dryer.

• Use curling iron to apply flips to the hair.

• Mist with Optimum Advanced Flexible Holding Spray.

Locked And Ready to Go

Mark Ward, entertainer styled by Nardia McFarlane

Finding the right stylist while touring has proven to be a tedious task for Ward. “It wasn’t a difficult decision to make, four-and-a-half years ago, to get locks as it is very easy for me to maintain with my busy schedule,” shared Ward.

Hair Condition:

Ward’s hair has not been interlocked in almost three months, so McFarlane opted for the interlocking method rather than palm rolling the hair.

How do I know if locks are for me?

If you have always admired natural hairstyles and their versatility, Sisterlocks is something you have probably considered at some point. Before making any drastic decisions, it is probably best to consult a natural hair expert or an experienced loctician to explore your options. This expert will not only ensure that you are emotionally ready for the commitment but will give you the rundown on how to select the size of each lock and how to care for your new look. If you want to test it out or do not want to wait months for it to get to your desired length, you may try applying lock extensions, rather than growing it from scratch.

Steps

• Cleanse the hair with Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo.

• Replenish the hair by applying Creme of Nature Argan Oil Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner.

• Apply Jamaican Mango & Lime Lock Gro lightly to the roots.

• Interlock the roots with an interlock needle.

• Use Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Edge Control to control fuzz.
