LEADERS Sporting Central Academy (SCA) and third-placed Arnett Gardens clash in the marquee match of the eighth round of the Red Stripe Premier League at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex at 6:00 pm today.

In other matches, Boys’ Town travel to Humble Lion, Harbour View host Cavalier, Waterhouse play Montego Bay United and Savannah meet Highgate. Tivoli will host Portmore in the late Monday night football fiesta game at Edward Seaga Stadium at 9:00 pm tomorrow.

But there should be no doubt about the match of the round as leaders SCA, on 16 points, try to starve off third-placed Arnett Garden, three adrift and having played a game less.

Clarendon-based Sporting are riding on a three-game winning streak and are bubbling with confidence. With the talented Keith Kelly pulling the strings in midfield, along with LeVaughn Watson, Kadian Wynter, Jamoly Powell, Francois Swaby, Gregory Lewis, Marlon Allen, Christopher Banner, Dale Watson Camaal Reid and Linval Lewis, they will hold the key to Sporting’s success.

Meanwhile, Arnett, who lost their unbeaten tag last Monday, will be seeking to rebound at home where they have won all three games played at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Just like Kelly for Sporting, the gifted Lamar Nelson will be orchestrating the music from the middle of the park for Arnett Gardens.

The ‘Junglist’ will be boosted by the return of the influential Rohan Reid and livewire Jonathan Williams in midfield, along with the sharp-looking Kirk Ramsey, Leon Strickland, Marcelino Blackburn and the ever-improving Vishinul Harris to secure victory.

But based on last season’s results, Sporting should feel confident of yet another win after winning two of the four clashes, of which one was drawn and Arnett Gardens winning the other.

Meanwhile, second-placed Boys’ Town, on 15 points, are sitting in the cat’s bird seat but must be wary of the surging Humble Lion, in seventh spot on nine points, who could eat all three points, especially playing in their den at Effortville.

Both teams are in good form, with Boys’ Town on a three-game winning streak, having rushed aside Montego Bay United, Harbour View and Tivoli Gardens.

Humble Lion have brushed aside both Highgate United and Savannah FC in recent weeks to really kick-start their season and will be looking to build on that with another good performance at home.

Fourth-placed Harbour View, on 13 points, are fancied to secure maximum points from a Cavalier outfit in the relegation zone with six points after losing their last three games.

Harbour View, under the astute guidance of Vin Blaine, have been steady throughout and another workman-like if, not spectacular, performance is in store from the ‘Stars of the East’.

However, Cavalier are wounded and dangerous and Duncan’s Destroyers showed earlier that they can play a good passing game, as was evident against Waterhouse and Harbour View and cannot be taken lightly.

Waterhouse, fresh from their enthralling 3-2 win over Arnett Gardens, will have to lift themselves again when they travel to Montego Bay United. Waterhouse are in eighth spot on eight points, while Montego Bay are two places and two points adrift in 10th spot on six points and should provide fans with a keenly contested game.

The clash between the promoted Savannah, in sixth place with 10 points, and cellar team Highgate United, on two points, can go either way. The Westmoreland-based Savannah are coming off back-to-back 0-3 losses and their confidence might have been shattered, setting the stage for St Mary outfit Highgate to secure their first win of the season.
