THE Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) closed its season in style with a gala and awards ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in St Andrew on Tuesday.

Lifting the biggest trophy for the evening was Sebastien Rae. Rae narrowly won the 2012 JRDC Series Championship title from David Summerbell Jr and defending champion Kyle Gregg. Rae also took home the Heroes Day meet and his Bracket 32 class championship titles.

“I’m honoured to win this award,” Rae told the audience as he received his overall prize at the function. “I hope to carry this momentum into 2013.”

The four-wheeled champions were aplenty. Dwight Spence was the Bracket 45N champ in his Honda Civic. Neilon Barnett captured his 2012 B45T title with his Toyota Starlet Glanza V by not falling for Douglas Gore’s tactics and ‘not breaking out’.

“I had an injector fail on me before the meet,” he said. “So I had to switch back to the smaller OEM ones which kept me from joining in the chase of Doug.”

Spencer Whittingham took the B38 class. A gracious George Bayley thanked everyone who contributed to his B27 class championship and handed out several plaques of his own to members of his team, supporters and family.

The full race Modified Production (MP) and Thundersport (TS) titles were basically the domain of Total Summerbell Racing, with only Tarik Minott and Peter Rae getting a look-in. Minott held off Natasha Chang for MP1 honours. Rae took advantage of his upgrades and Summerbell Jr’s ‘issues’ to win TS2. The sea of Total-sponsored red shirts began with Kyle Gregg, MP2 and TS1 victor; Andre Anderson MP3; and David Summerbell Jr for MP4.

In the motorcycle category, it was Adrian Blake who bested his rivals for the Motorbike class A championship. He will spend 2013 defending his title from class B winner Robert McDonald.
