Local Gov’t minister condemns Riverton City killing
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Local Government minister, Noel Arscott, has condemned the killing of a security guard at the Riverton City dump today.
According to Arscott, working at the disposal site was difficult job and the killing was a “barbaric and cruel” act.
The minister offered his condolences to the family while spurring the security forces to bring the killers to justice.
Reports are that Valentine Reid, 47, was on duty when he observed two men removing gas from equipment at the waste disposal site around 3:15am.
The National Solid Waste Authority, which operates the dump, said another security guard left the scene to alert Jamaica Defence Force soldiers stationed nearby.
Reid in the meantime accosted the men who shot him and then escaped, the police reported.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations are ongoing.
