Calvin ‘Dibbles’ Lewis has officially taken over the coaching reins at Arnett Gardens and will start his second tour of duty with the club with a Saturday morning training session at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Lewis, who replaced Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis, who resigned earlier this week, was an assistant coach to Fabian Davis in 2008/09 season, but this time he will be the main man in charge.

“It is one that I have to grab with two hands,” said Lewis, who resigned from Highgate United earlier this season. “They called me and said they need somebody to take over and I readily accepted it.”

Lewis, a police officer who came to prominence while coaching Police Nationals to the KSAFA Major League title in 2004/05, led Portmore United to the title last season before surprisingly resigning and heading to St Mary’s outfit Highgate United, saying he wanted to create a legacy there.

But that romance ended quickly after Highgate made a disastrous start to the campaign and he called it quits.

Lewis, 39, a former Kingston College student, said Arnett Gardens is a good team with good players and he felt good going back into their set up.

“It’s all good going back to Arnett Gardens and hopefully I can elevate them from where they are now,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Arnett Gardens are currently fifth in the table on 21 points, nine points behind leaders Harbour View. The Junglists have won six of their 14 games, drawn three, and lost five.

But the lawman believes he can bring a level of organisation to the team and allow them to express themselves more on the field.

“The team really galvanised the community as a whole and a lot is expected of the team, so I have to just go there and give it my best shot and hope for some good results,” he noted.

Lewis will be in charge for the Collie Smith Drive derby against second placed Boys’ Town tomorrow in what will be an acid test on his return to the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
