Chill Out Hut sizzles
MONTEGO BAY, St James – CHILL OUT Hut brainchild of Henry and Glenise Frey, opened its doors in Long Bay, Greenwood, in June 2010 and is gaining plenty of traction.
Henry Frey, who originates from Switzerland, says that he used to entertain friends and family on the same property for five years when a friend suggested he set up business.
“I used to have a picnic set-up on the white sand beach and I would do jerked chicken and so on. One day, a good friend of mine suggested that I establish a business on the property and I thought it a novel idea and decided to pursue it,” he said
Frey also added that when he approached the mayor of Montego Bay about the idea, he was met with reluctance at first.
“He said that I would not be able to do the business but when he came on the site himself, he was in awe of how beautiful the property was and told me to draw up a plan right away. I started construction in 2009,” Frey said.
Manager of Chill Out Hut, Stanley Nansen who has been representing the company since May of this year says Chill Out Hut is among the best hang-out spots in Montego Bay.
“Chill Out Hut hosts beach weddings, beach parties, baby showers, birthday parties and staff parties. It also facilitate luncheons. Right now a meeting room is being constructed to further facilitate these events. There is also a wide variety of cocktails and high end liquors such as Hennessey and Greygoose. There are hammocks on the water, cabanas and thatch huts,” he said.
Chill Out Hut also offers additional entertainment ‘windows’ such as live calypso and reggae nights movie night, karaoke and mud wrestling. Mud wrestling is considered to be a major highlight of Chill Out Hut’s entertainment package.
“The “mud” is made out of chocolate sauce in a pool. The last girl standing receives a cash prize of $10,000. This event takes place on the last Friday of every month,” Frey said.
Frey says he is very grateful for the public support. “I am very pleased with the support we have been receiving at Chill Out Hut so far, and I will encourage more [people] in the west to come out and explore what we have to offer,” he said.
