Rodman shines at Ja 50 cycling event
MARLOE Rodman starred at the Jamaica 50 Commemorative training and development meet Sunday at the National Stadium, winning the Devil Take the Hindmost, Match Sprint, and the 20-lap Scratch events.
Rodman showed his skill and strength in the Devil Take the Hindmost, where the last rider in every lap is eliminated, beating Thailer Hill and Linford Blackwood.
Rodman also captured the Match Sprint (one-on-one elimination), again besting Hill, who was second, Peter Thompson, and Dervin Myers.
In the 20-lap Scratch, Rodman outrode Hill and Blackwood.
President of the Jamaica Cycling Federation Edward Harper said: “Rodman is planning to do more track cycling with strong plans to be in Mexico on February 2013 for the first Cycling World Cup of the New Year”.
In other results, Terron Brown won the Category 5 (beginners/new to racing) road race by eclipsing Matthew Parchment and Surge McGill.
Dervin Myers secured the four-lap Juniors, getting home ahead of Andre Jackson while in the Women’s 4-lap newcomers, Renee Cousins cruised to victory, with Kimberly Rose and Liona Ricketts trailing.
Promising Dahlia Palmer, women’s national road champion, rode with the men to sharpen for the new year.
Gary Smith took the eight-lap Masters, beating Gary Young and Andrew Rousseau.
