BELOW are comments, posted online, in response to yesterday’s Page 3 story titled ‘Yuh can’t stick up a bruk man’ in which Horace Dalley, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, cautioned trade unions representing public sector workers against demanding too much of the Govenrment, which he said was essentially broke.

Usually, in Jamaica when a man is held up, and is found to be ‘bruk’, he is killed on the spot, without sympathy. Perhaps, the unions are moving on the same path.

The Government speaks about being broke when convenient. It is time to reduce the size of the Cabinet and even take a pay cut if necessary.

The previous Government spent four years trying to tell us we are broke and that the “bitter medicine” is upon us. While I have no party affiliation, I was smart enough to acknowledge this as hard fact. Yet, from the campaign platform I saw 12 months ago you would think they were lying and now, story come to bump: Our dishonest politics will always be the noose around our necks.

Is the minister suggesting it is ok to stick up a rich or rather not so broke man? The minister’s use of that phrase to illustrate his point is very unfortunate, especially with the current state of criminality in the country. Politicians need to choose their words with much more care and forethought.

Interesting. When Mr Shaw told the unions there is no money for increase they all planned to shut down the country and take them to court. Now this Government is saying the same thing. What will the unions do now?

Yuh right. Yuh cyaan stick up a bruk man… but the Government fail to understand that they have been sticking up the civilians all the time! Increases on bus fare, flour, gas and tax on everything, but u have a problem negotiating raise in pay once in a while? Forget this… I won’t vote again

Told them that they were not to worry because they would be delivered from the clutches of the evil JLP (Jamaica Labour Party) Government in two weeks? What happened to those promises? Didn’t they check to see the financial situation of the country or were they so desperate to lead that they deliberately lied to the people in order to get those votes?
