Waulgrovians ‘A’ face Tivoli ‘A’ in JNBS/JNA Sunshine Open League Netball

LONGSTANDING arch-rivals Waulgrovians ‘A’ and Tivoli ‘A’ will face each other as the 2012/2013 Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS)/Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Sunshine Open League competition continues today at the Leila Robinson Courts, Independence Park Complex, starting at 4:20 pm.

The Waulgrovians ‘A’ and Tivoli ‘A’ encounter is the ‘Elite’ Group, which consists of eight of the top teams in the country. Forty matches are scheduled today with the ‘Elite’ Group team playing for the second match at 7:00.

Matches actually are slated to begin at 1:00 pm with the ‘B’ Group Open League rivalry.

Waulgrovians ‘A’ did not play their first game against Mico ‘A’ as the latter asked for a postponement at last Saturday’s official opening, while Tivoli ‘A’ started off strongly with an impressive 30-17 win over University of the West Indies (UWI) Pelicans ‘A’.

The match-up between the Marvette Anderson-coached Waulgrovians and the Sylvester ‘Chris’ Campbell-coached Tivoli ‘A’ has always been an interesting and thrilling duel and another close encounter should be in the making for netball fans.

Meanwhile, defending ‘Elite’ Open champions Jamalco will face GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ also at 4:20. Both teams won their opening matches last Saturday, Jamalco beating newcomers Global United ‘A’ 24-12 and GC Foster ‘A’ outscoring Cable Pro 17-12.

Cable Pro (formerly Windalco) and UWI Pelicans ‘A’, both of whom lost their opening matches last Saturday, should have a keenly contested encounter between themselves at 4:20.

Another ‘Elite’ Group game scheduled for 4:20 is between the Dalton Hinds-coached Global United ‘A’ and the Annette Daley-coached Mico ‘A’, and it should be quite interesting to see who comes out the winner in what promises to be a ding-dong battle.

Meanwhile, ‘B’ Group matches scheduled today are: Genesis vs Tivoli ”B’; Pembroke Hall ‘B’ vs Police ‘A’; Hellshire United vs Maxfield Park; Edna Manley Strikers vs Ebony Strikers ‘B’ at 1:00.

New Kingston Raiders vs Payne Land; Spanish Town Strikers ‘B’ vs UWI Pelicans ‘B’; Rivoli United ‘A’ vs Tantrum; Molynes United ‘B’ vs Blades United ‘B’ at 1:40.

Alexander Strikers vs Greenwich Town ‘A’; Department of Correctional Services vs UTech Knights; Jetsetters ‘A’ vs Top Mountain Flames; Upper Camp vs Rivoli United ‘B’ at 2:20.

Spanish Town Strikers ‘A’ vs Molynes United ‘A’; Jobs Lane United ‘A’ vs Pembroke Hall ‘A’; Greenwich Town ‘B’ vs Boulevard Baptist; Maxfield Park ‘A’ vs OMEGA at 3:00.

Pembroke Hall ‘B’ vs Ebony Strikers ‘B’; Tivoli ‘B’ vs Liguanea United ‘B’; Genesis vs Maxfied Park ‘B’ at 3:40.

New Kingston Raiders vs Spanish Town Strikers ‘B’; UWI Pelicans ‘B’ vs Blades United ‘B’; Payne Land vs Molynes United ‘A’; Tantrum vs Speg ‘A’ at 5:00.

Jetsetters ‘A’ vs Upper Camp; Department Correctional Services vs Rivoli United ‘B’; Greenwich Town ‘A’ vs Hagley Park; Alexander Strikers vs Top Mountain Flames at 5:40.

Maxfield Park ‘A’ vs Jobs Lane United ‘A’; Breaton United vs Omega; Spanish Town Strikers ‘A’ vs Greenwich Town ‘B’; Molynes United ‘A’ vs Pembroke Hall ‘A’ at 6:20.

Jamalco vs Mico ‘A’; GC Foster Strikers ‘A’ vs UWI Pelicans ‘A’; Global United ‘A’ vs Tivoli ‘A’; Cable Pro vs Waulgrovians ‘A’ at 7:00 pm.
