ISLAND Living – March 7
I am a patriot at heart and believe in Jamaica and the Jamaican brand 100 per cent. Almost everything is custom-made, and my home is no exception; it’s me and my carpenter working together to get the look I desire. I make exactly what I want if I can’t find it in a store, but that was until I discovered Island Art and Framing. Our love affair started several years ago when they began framing most of my artwork. The affair has blossomed into furnishings, as they have moved into the design and manufacture of beautiful island furnishing. Indeed, most of the pieces in my home are from their workshop. I have also collaborated with them to create custom-made pieces to complement existing furniture. Naturally, I appreciate and support the fact that such fine furniture is made right here in Jamaica, by our skilled carpenters.
Besides being a retail store, Island Art and Framing offers interior decorating and design services. They custom-build furniture, accessories and even bathroom vanities and kitchen cabinets with solid wood countertops made with hardwoods like guango.
Today we feature parts of a beautiful beach house, in which all the interior decorating and design was done by Island Art & Framing. All the furniture, art and home decor items are either manufactured or sold by Island Art & Framing. The beautiful thing about the design is that it incorporates the rustic elements like driftwood, wood branches and tree stumps with refined wood pieces and soft furnishings and fabrics, all tied together with the colours of turquoise, yellow, beige and white to mirror the Caribbean sea, sun and sand.
Room 1:
An entry or foyer should always give a warm welcome, and this one gives a hearty Island welcome as it washes you in the turquoise blue of the sea, finished with a rustic wood table, a mirror and dried flowers.
Room 2:
Rough reclaimed wood and logs are combined beautifully to create the dining chairs and barstools used on this family al fresco dining room. The rustic beach cottage feel is carried upwards to the ceiling that gives the appearance of a thatched roof, where the designers used wood twigs to create a stunning effect in the ceiling. Sea-foam green walls and turquoise cushions and accessories add cheerful colour to the space.
Room 3.
The sandy beige hue of this bedroom gets a burst of sunshine with sunny yellow accents of the lamps and bedding. The rough untreated look of the wood used to make the headboard and bench carry through the beach-chic design.
Room 4.
You’ll never look at tree branches in the same way again, when you see the creative way that Island Art and Framing designers have put them to use in this bathroom. Tree branches intertwine to make the mirror frame and the support for the shelves. Mix in seashells and sea-stones, and beach chic is the result
