Bethel crowned LIME/INSPORTS Primary League parish champions

Bethel will represent the parish of Hanover in the national phase of the LIME/INSPORTS Primary League after beating Esher 3-1 in the final at Watson Taylor Park on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, McAuley and St John’s Road will meet in the St Catherine final tomorrow after semi-final victories at Prison Oval.

For the second straight year Bethel booked their place in the national phase, rallying from a goal down for a deserved win.

Shakor Oates (15th) and Jovain McNish (22nd) put Bethel in front at break, after Tarique Cooke’s (5th) strike gave Bethel the early lead.

Female Renesha McFarlane (54th) then added a third late on to confirm Bethel as parish champions.

Kemar Coleman (58th) grabbed the winner near the end, as St John’s overcame Friendship 2-1 in a gritty affair.

With just a few metres separating both schools, the battle was very close.

This was evident from the first whistle, as St John’s drew first blood through a thumping from the boot of Kidoy Chambers (10th).

But their lead lasted just six minutes, as Chevar Tucker (16th) rounded off a superb move to bring Friendship level. However, Friendship were undone by Coleman’s late strike.

Two-time parish champions McAuley scored two second-half goals in five minutes for a third successive berth in the final.

Shakir Simpson (36th) tapped home during a melee after Ravaughn Thomas’s penalty came off the crossbar.

The dreadlocked Christopher Morgan (41st) then added a second for the beaten 2011 national finalist, while Spanish Town were twice denied by the woodwork from free kicks.
