MoBay Boys’ Club to share $1 million with Urban Knights
MONTEGO BAY, St James — National Supplies Company yesterday extended their long-standing sponsorship of Urban Knights basketball club while adding the Montego Bay Boys’ Club basketball team to their “family” at a press event held at the Wexford Hotel in Montego Bay.
National Supply Company will sponsor both teams for a total of $1 million this season — $750,000 going to Urban Knights that play in the Flow National Basketball League-South while the remainder will go to the Montego Bay-based club that were losing finalists in the Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Basketball Championships.
A stipulation for the donation to the Montego Bay Club is that $200,000 is to be used directly for the basketball team and $50,000 to be used by the club that is located on River Bay Road.
Donovan Chen See, Director of Sales and Marketing for National Supply, said his company’s involvement in the clubs was not just about “sponsorship but being part of a family” and said there would be further collaboration between both clubs.
“Growth and development are more important than just winning titles, and today is the start of the growth with Montego Bay Boys’ Club,” Chen See said.
Chen See spoke of the history of the Montego Bay Boys’ Club, describing it as “a remarkable 70 years; what they have done for the… less fortunate kids and the environment, we want to be part of this”.
Moving forward, he said there were plans for Urban Knights to share their expertise with not just Boys’ Club’s team but with other teams in the Western Basketball Association, while the Montego Bay Boys’ Club marching band would be invited to Kingston to “vibes things up” at their games on various occasions.
Kevin Alexander, vice-president of Urban Knights, and Maurice Smith, coach of Montego Bay Boys Club team, also addressed the function.
