Wolmer’s on top at Business of Sport Forum
WOLMER’S Boys’ School topped the competition in the inaugural staging of the Collegiate Forum at the Business of Sport International Conference held last week at the Jamaica Pegasus.
Participating teams were requested to present the business case and development strategies of a management company for a young and talented Caribbean athlete on the threshold of an international career who was being approached by several business interests.
It was held over the two days of the conference under the chairmanship of Courtney Lodge, Partner of the Business of Sport and President of Strategic Corporate interventions, and with a distinguished panel of judges comprising Stephen Lashley, Minister of Culture, Sport and Youth from Barbados; Herman Longsworth, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport from Belize; and Barrister and lead counsel for the International Paralympic Committee, Mike Townley, all of whom applauded the students for the high standard of presentations made.
But it was the Age Quad Agis team of Matthew Royal, Cornel Bogle and Jermaine Maburahom who prevailed over a spirited challenge from Hydel and Kingston College.
For their victory, Wolmer’s took home to Heroes Circle the coveted Business of Sport Collegiate Trophy and its team members won an automatic right to present at next year’s conference with accomplished international and local speakers.
All three schools received US cash awards and each student from the three schools received a complimentary dinner valued at $4,000 courtesy of Tracks and Records, as well as complimentary gifts from Carimed and ESPN.
Patron of the Collegiate Forum, Powersports Dynasty speaker and Jamaican Olympian, Michael Frater, lauded the initiative of the organisers and remarked: “For me, being Patron of this Collegiate Forum is to give what I have and what I don’t have in recognition of the fact that empowering our youth and young professionals is a business in and of itself.”
Attendees also commended the organisers of the conference on the Forum and commented that it is a very welcome business move in the right direction.
The Business of Sport International Conference is hosted by Carole Beckford & Associates and Strategic Corporate Interventions Limited. This year’s theme was ‘Change the Game’.
