Booba Starr aims to be brightest
SINGJAY Booba Starr says he is setting his musical sights at a height no one has ever gone before.
The 28-year-old former Kingston College student feels being a new act positions him perfectly to achieve that goal.
“I want to be at the highest level (of the music business) or maybe beyond the highest level. I am new to the thing, so I can create that new level,” said Booba Starr, whose given name is Dane Salmon.
He said his unique style and a “different vocabulary” will make him a standout.
His latest single, Till Dusk Till Dawn, is aimed at helping him achieve his quest.
“That song is a party song, most naturally. It’s rare when you hear a Rasta doing a party song. But you know that everybody has to have fun, so it’s a happy song for all Rastas and everybody else,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
His other releases includes Roll Out, Neva Easy, Prison Neva Mek Fi Dawg, and Hackle Di Body.
He lists his inspiration as “the Most High”, in addition to Bob Marley, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Sizzla, Capleton, Buju Banton and late American rapper Tupac Shakur.
Booba Starr believes disharmony among artistes and lack of consideration for persons can cripple the industry.
“Everybody can live as one. So if they (the police) give till 2:00 am to party, just come out early so you get enough time to enjoy yourself. You have to understand that the people who will be working five o’clock in the morning, they have to get up early. So if you are disturbing their sleep, that wouldn’t be fair to them… we have to just ‘pree’ the thing on a fair level,” he said.
