The triple world record-holder, who is known for not starting well, was out the blocks with all the other athletes in the event, an unusual occurrence that he commented on in a post-game press conference.
“I had a nice start. That was ridiculous. A perfect start and then I just cropped off. I think it was this perfect start that threw my game off.”
The sprinter also said he would need to train harder to ensure he regains his trademark powerful finish going forward this season.
“I have to do more strength work I guess. I think it just needs some time to get it all back together,” he said, adding that the season it’s still early season and he is improving.
Bolt finished second in season’s best 9.95 seconds behind Gatlin who was marginally faster in 9.94 seconds.
