Andre, all the way!
ANDRE Anderson was the toast of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club’s Awards Ceremony held last Friday at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
The race-car driver, who was one of several top-flight drivers from the region at the Dover Raceway’s Caribbean Invasion on May 23, was voted Race Meet Champion.
Amassing a total of 69 points, Anderson is leading Kyle Gregg’s 51 points and Doug Gore’s 41. David Summerbell Jr, 2012 champion, whose mechanical problems sidelined him at the meet, is at fourth with 33.5 points.
“The plan was to win the Modified Production class 3, Bracket 27, and finish on the podium for Thundersport 2 (TS2). I won MP3, came second in B27 and TS2, so I partially got the results I wanted,’ Anderson told Auto.
Anderson also picked up Best-prepared Car and the ‘Boss a di Meet’ trophies.
Total Summerbell Racing team — which comprises Summerbell, Anderson and Gregg — went home with the Mechanic’s Champion Award. They were also recognised for turning in the meet’s fastest lap time of 1:17.864.
“I think I have a good chance in winning the championship this year, all I have to do is continue on the path that I’m on now and I should be able to pull it off.”
LueBoyz Racing and their Honda Civic, nicknamed the ‘Banana’, took Sexiest Car award.
The JRDC also took the time out to thank several key players that made the meet a successful one, such as Jamaica Customs, Kingston Wharves, Tank Weld, and Sandals Resorts for the use of their helicopter which transported injured biker Caswell Lewis to the MoBay Hope Hospital in St James.
