Putting rockers back in reggae
RAISED in a family with strong ties to the Twelve Tribes of Israel, Micah Shamaiah was introduced to the Rockers sound of the 1970s.
He tries to emulate that feel on Dread at The Control, a song by the roots group of the same name.
The song (released as a 7-inch vinyl) was launched on June 2 at Kingston Dub Club.
“Rockers was a militant thing, a militant energy. We need that feel again,” Shamaiah told the Jamaica Observer.
Dread at The Control is a collaboration between Shamaiah, TJ (Likkle Briggie), Hempress Sativa, Infinite and Jahkime.
