Sprint king Bolt presents Nadal with his prize
PARIS, France (CMC) — Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt has quickly put Thursday’s Rome Diamond League loss to Justin Gatlin behind him, appearing at the French Open men’s final yesterday to present champion Rafael Nadal with his historic eighth trophy.
The 26-year-old Bolt, the reigning Olympic double sprint champion and World record holder, watched with French Federation president Jean Gachassin from the stands as the dominant Nadal dismissed fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
Following Nadal’s triumph, he descended onto the clay of Roland Garros to present the champion with the Coupe des Mousquetaires, the trophy traditionally awarded to the men’s champion. Bolt, dressed smartly in slacks and a sports blazer, was seen exchanging words with Nadal as he handed over the trophy.
Prior to the trophy presentation, giant television screens in the stadium showed footage from Bolt’s 100 metres victory at last year’s London Olympics.
Bolt opened his European season with a surprise loss last week, beaten into second place in the 100 metres by the resurgent American Gatlin.
