Wadadah FC falls short
CATHERINE HALL, St James — MONTEGO Bay’s hopes of a second team in the Red Stripe Premier League next season were dashed on Sunday after Wadadah FC wasted numerous opportunities and were beaten 1-0 by Rivoli United in their final round JFF All-Island Confederation play-off game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Wadadah finished third in the four team competition with six points behind Rivoli United’s 14 points and August Town’s 10 points, while Volvo FC was last with four points.
After winning the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League, Wadadah had set off hopes of joining Montego Bay United in next season’s Premier League.
The dreams went up in flames with some inconsistent play from Wadadah who lost their first three games in the play-off series, but had bounced back with back-to-back wins and had lodged a protest over the alleged use of an ineligible player by Volvo FC in their 2-0 loss.
The protest was turned down on Friday and two days later Wadadah meekly lost to a Rivoli team that “merely showed up” after they had already secured their place in the previous game.
Wadadah will now return to the Super League next season where they will join Savannah SC who were demoted from the Premier League this season.
