MEET
any of you may have never heard of I Queen, but she has been in the music industry for over two decades. And by just looking at her, you wouldn’t believe it.
Born Camile Whyte, I Queen’s experience in the industry has led her to work with quite a few noted producers and even a name change.
Back in 1990s she was called Princess Natural, but it is since she has begun working with Sean ‘Seanizzle’ Reid that I Queen has really blossomed.
With Seanizzle she told teenAGE that she feels more settled and that he’s interested in her music and sees her as a real artiste.
Describing her music as uplifting and spiritual, I Queen said her link with Seanizzle was after she saw him at a stage show and approached him about her music.
All of this she told Flexxing With when we sat for our exclusive Press Record at Seanizzle’s studios.
“I love singing reggae music because most of the reggae music that I listen to from ever since really motivates me,” I Queen told teenAGE.
And if you think that her style and sound is familiar, it is because her rich tone reminds many of Tracy Chapman.
“A lot of artistes inspire me, but one artiste in particular, Tracy Chapman, I look up to. I love her style, how she flows, and her deepness. But I also love Marcia Griffiths, another artiste that I look up to, and Beres Hammond, all of them really motivate me,” said I Queen.
The quiet, soft-spoken woman told teenAGE that now is the time for her to make her move in the business.
Now is the time for me, people are really gravitating to the culture right now. I hear a lot of young artistes coming up. I see the space out there and where I can make great change,” she said.
Her new single, Wanna Be Free, has been making waves in Africa and Europe and is picking up plays in Jamaica. And Seanizzle told teenAGE that more tracks for I Queen will soon hit the road.
