VICE-PRESIDENT of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Milton Henry is predicting a spectacle during the country’s hosting of the Celkon Mobile Cup Tri-Nation series, which starts tomorrow with West Indies facing Sri Lanka.

The tournament’s third team, the freshly crowned ICC Champions Trophy winners India, bows into action on Sunday when they oppose the West Indies.

The Jamaica leg of the series rounds out on July 2 when Asian rivals India and Sri Lanka battle.

All three matches will be played at Sabina Park in Kingston before attention swings to the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad & Tobago.

Henry said the calibre of the teams should augur well for entertaining cricket.

“We have to agree that these are three top quality teams which would bring high quality international cricket to Sabina Park. We expect that the Park will be abuzz with excitement and quite a large crowd will turn out to be entertained.

“We are seeing some of the world’s best players and if you look at India they have just won the Champions Trophy and those stars are here. You look at West Indies with Chris Gayle, (Kieron) Pollard, (Sunil) Narine, and then of course the Sri Lankan world stars. I think that’s probably as good as it gets,” he told the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday.

Within recent years, the JCA had expressed concerns that Jamaica was not being handed enough top international matches by the parent body West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Henry, who recently announced he will run for the JCA top spot at the association’s annual general meeting this year, credited the regional body for offering Jamaica a piece of the 50-overs action.

“This is what we requested of the WICB… that they include us in this leg… the JCA is really quite excited that we can bring this level of cricket to Sabina Park and with all the excitement that One-Day cricket brings. The preparation at Sabina Park is in high gear and the response from everyone is pretty good,” Henry emphasised.
