Sandals Corporate University legacy series has veterans sharing experiences
THE Sandals Corporate University (SCU) Legacy Series, which facilitates the sharing of experiences b etween the company’s veteran team members and their younger counterparts, was held last week at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay.
Wayne Cummings, director of business processes and administration at Sandals Resorts International, told team members that his 25-year journey from applicant to one of Sandals Resorts’ key figures was a great and humbling experience.
“I had absolutely no idea I would end up in tourism. It has been an interesting journey that has led me to where I am today,” he said.
“I never planned to be a leader but there is a certain respect I have always had for people that has encouraged them to embrace me as one,” he added, responding to questions by team members about the dedication and focus that allowed him to become a director.
SCU Registrar Mark Frederick said the sessions are meant to serve as a means of documenting the organisation’s history for future reference and team building.
“It is truly an effective tool to not only help to develop our younger team members, but also to allow them to interact with some of the key figures in our company in a way that was not possible before. The possibilities for this series are truly tremendous,” Frederick said.
The SCU Legacy Series was developed out of the need for knowledge and vision sharing between the organisation’s long-serving employees and the current generation.
The series will continue throughout the resort chain’s various hotels with several other key figures in the organisation sharing their knowledge and experiences.
