SDC T20 semis on today
THE semi-finals of the Social Development Commission (SDC) Twenty20 (T20) competition will feature two exciting matches today at the Ultimate cricket ground in Discovery Bay, St Ann.
In the opener at 10:00 am, St Elizabeth’s Junction/Bull Savannah is set to battle Jack’s River of St Mary, while Westmoreland’s Petersville will face Richmond Park in the afternoon fixture at 2:00 pm.
Junction/Bull Savannah reached the last four of the tournament after the disqualification of Racecourse and the 2012 losing finalists Bridgeport.
The Clarendon-located Racecourse had defeated Bridgeport by seven wickets in the quarter-final match at the Harmons Community Centre in Manchester on July 28, but the winning team was ruled out due to the use of an ineligible player.
That opened the door for the progression of Bridgeport, but it is understood that the Portmore-based team was also disqualified for breaching the eligibility rules.
The elimination of both teams allowed Junction/Bull Savannah, who lost to Richmond Park of Kingston & St Andrew by one wicket in the other quarter-final match at the Harmons venue, to advance to the last four.
Terrence Richards, the SDC’s programmes coordinator, explained that “at that venue there were four teams and two have been disqualified so Junction/Bull Savannah will join Richmond Park” in the semi-finals.
