FIFTEEN years ago, Jamaican singer Honorebel and Cuban-American rapper Pitbull were struggling artistes in South Florida, hoping to make the big time.

The longtime friends renew ties on Seize The Night, a reggae song scheduled for digital release by Zojak Distributors.

“This is a major deal, it’s the first time Pitbull is doing a reggae song,” Honorebel told Splash. “There’s going to be worldwide promotion but I want to start with my roots, ’cause Jamaica is the hub for Caribbean music.”

Seize The Night is co-produced by Erick Rydmark and Sven Landholm, a Swedish team known for their success in electronic music.

A dancehall remix was produced by Tarik ‘Russian’ Johnston, whose credits include Vybz Kartel’s Straight Jeans and Fitted and Look Pon Wi.

Seize The Night is the lead single from the St Andrew-born Honorebel’s new album, Honor Roll, which is due for a October 1 release.

Honorebel says he first met the Cuba-born Pitbull in 1999 when they were part of Luther ‘Luke’ Campbell’s (of rap group 2 Live Crew fame) camp.

Their previous collaborations were the dance tracks Now You See It and I Wanna. The former, released in 2010, made charts in 24 countries.

Pitbull has established a large following through hits like I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho), taken from his 2009 platinum album Rebelution.

Though his base is particularly strong in the United States Hispanic community, Pitbull has worked with artistes from other genres including Sean Paul, Inner Circle and Trinidadian soca star Machel Montano.
