SINGER Christopher Martin has signed with independent reggae company VP Records.

According to a statement from the label, the deal will see Martin releasing multiple albums while partnering with the label on touring and publishing efforts.

Martin is currently recording songs for his VP debut album, scheduled for release early next year.

“I am very happy to be working with VP. I’ve made major strides in my career on my own, and with the backing of VP I strongly feel that the sky is the limit for me,” he told Splash.

The 26 year-old Martin expects to break new ground with the partnership.

“The aim is really to expand my fan base and VP will be able to reach more than I could as an independent act,” he said.

Based in Queens, New York, VP is widely credited with introducing dancehall music to a mainstream audience in the United States. It has helped harness the careers of Beres Hammond, Beenie Man, Wayne Wonder and Sean Paul.

In recent years, the company has moved into the lucrative area of publishing by acquiring the Greensleeves Records catalogue.

Martin first came to prominence in 2005 when he won the Digicel Rising Stars competition.

Since then, he has released a number of hit songs including Take My Wings, Giving It, Chill Spot and Cheaters Prayer.
