Two get Chevening Scholarships
TWO Jamaicans have been awarded the 2012-2013 Chevening Scholarships to study in the UK this year. They are Edgar Bennett and Garcia Kelly. They are among some 700 people who were awarded from around the world. The only other person from the region who was selected is Glenn McPhee of The Bahamas.
Bennett is a certified internal auditor, a certified information systems auditor (CISA) and an affiliate of the association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of the West Indies.
Bennett’s ultimate goal is to become a strategic forensic consultant and university professor. He will pursue a Master of Science degree in Forensic Audit & Accounting at the University of South Wales and intends to assist in the fight against crime upon his return to the island.
Kelly, meanwhile, is an attorney-at-law. He will be pursuing a Masters of Law degree in International Business Law at the Queen Mary University of London with a particular focus on: Law of Economic Crime, Regulation of Financial Markets and International Construction Contracts and Arbitration. As a Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, he looks forward to returning to Jamaica at the end of his studies to assist in eradicating the lottery scam.
Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. It provides full or part funding for full-time courses at the postgraduate level in any subject and at any UK university.
