Nine held for electricity theft in Portland
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Members of the Island Special Constabulary Force last Friday seized approximately 5,000 feet of electrical wire in an early morning operation, which resulted in the arrest of nine residents of Windsor in the Rio Grande Valley.
The police said they also seized wall sockets, adapters and extension cords during the operation.
The nine people arrested, including three women, were charged with illegally extracting electricity and were offered station bail in the sum of $30,000 each. They are booked to appear in the Port Antonio Resident Magistrate’s Court on September 24.
Police did not give the names of the accused, but said the ages ranged from 16 years to 60 years.
Police said that following the Windsor raid officers went to an informal settlement near the old Port Antonio Marina, where they removed illegal wiring from five houses. No one was arrested in that operation.
This recent arrest follows a similar operation last Tuesday when six residents of Berrydale were taken into custody for theft of electricity.
