PNP councillors oust their mayor in Morant Bay
PEOPLE’S National Party (PNP) Councillors, who have had control of the St Thomas Parish Council since 2012, joined ranks yesterday to oust colleague and Mayor of Morant Bay Marsha Francis Johnson from office.
Mayor Francis Johnson’s six colleagues supported a second “no-confidence” motion brought against her at the council yesterday morning, paving the way for her departure after less than 18 months in office.
Francis Johnson, who is councillor for the Cedar Valley Division, was replaced by Deputy Mayor Ludlow Mathison (Bath), who had been acting in the position since she took leave of absence from the council after a similar motion brought against her on July 3 was withdrawn. The withdrawal followed the intervention of the Ministry of Local Government.
