UWI student wins LIME Facebook scholarship
ANELA Gordon, an aspiring chartered accountant, is the grand prize winner of a $100,000 scholarship grant offered from telecommunications company LIME in its Facebook Scholarship Sweepstakes.
The 20-year-old who hails from the parish of Portland says she still had not received ‘financial clearance’ from the University of the West Indies — a status she says allows her to sit examinations and utilise the full service of the library.
“I didn’t believe when I first got the call from LIME,” Gordon recalls, “I saw a friend of mine encouraging persons to enter the competition on his Facebook page and decided to sign up. Admittedly, I didn’t remember entering until they contacted me to say I had won,” said the accounting student.
She also said her scepticism was furthered by her mother who told her to “check it out”.
“I thought it was a scam,” she laughed.
Gordon, who is the first of her immediate family members to attend university, said that the money she has won will allow her to complete registration at UWI.
“This is a very good thing that LIME has done in giving tertiary students an opportunity to pursue their education. Most of us are in need,” the grateful student highlighted.
The LIME Scholarship Sweepstakes offered prizes including cash, handsets, book vouchers, movie tickets, and other prizes in the competition that was run throughout the month of September on its Facebook page.
