GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — West Indies Under-19s rode on a half-century from Tagenarine Chanderpaul and a four-wicket haul from fast bowler Preston McSween to register a convincing 67-run win over Bangladesh Under-19s in the fifth Youth One-Day International (ODI) match at the Guyana National Stadium here on Wednesday.

Chanderpaul patiently compiled a top score of 51 as West Indies were bowled out for 177 runs, while McSween removed key front-line batsmen and tail enders to trigger a Bangladesh collapse for 110, allowing the homeside to keep the seven-match series alive.

Bangladesh now lead the series three games to two.

The Guyanese batsman faced 94 balls, cracking six fours and a six and played the lead role in pulling the West Indies innings around after a top order stumble.

He added 42 runs with Nicholas Pooran at a crucial rebuilding phase after the homeside lost some early wickets, including Shimron Hetmyer for a well played 29.

Pooran was caught after scoring 23, the same contribution from Tristan Coleman, one of the front-line batsmen who lost his stumps.

Zubair Hossain Likhon accounted for most of the West Indian wickets finishing with four for 20.

The West Indies pace attack troubled the front-line batsmen and before the 18th over Bangladesh had plunged to 55 for five as Ramaal Lewis’s men took control of the game.

Tight fielding as well by the regional side also helped to contain the run flow as wickets continued to tumble, including that of Rifat Pradhan, who was brilliantly run out by Fabian Allen for 5.

Only a responsible top score of 49 by Sadman Islam Anik succeeded in temporarily stabilising the Bangladesh innings.

But then any hopes Bangladesh would have had of consolidating on Anik’s persistence were dashed after he was smartly stumped by Pooran off McSween, the Grenadian pacer.

McSween, awarded player-of-the-match, finished with impressive figures of 8.3-2-20-4, while Ray Jordan picked up two for 30.
