BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — England scored a convincing five-wicket win over New Zealand in the second match of the Women’s Twenty20 International Tri-Series on Wednesday at Kensington Oval.

Captain Charlotte Edwards led the run chase with a top score of 42 as the English women scored 111 for five to open their account with victory.

Suzie Bates led the scoring for New Zealand with a top score of 48 after they got off to a good start benefiting from a half-century opening stand.

Bates carried her side for most of the overs and perished in the latter stages after slapping a high full toss from Natalie Sciver into the deep and was caught.

Holly Colvin and Sciver picked up two wickets each for New Zealand.

England chased the target slowly but cautiously and aside from the role of skipper Edwards, in scoring 42 from 56 balls, a blistering unbeaten 29 from Tasmin Beaumont towards the end, carried her side home.

Beaumont was named player-of-the-match for her 29 from 23 balls that hastened the chase.
