TUCKER, St James — Montego Bay United (MBU) are playing consistently good football.

But not many Montego Bay football fans are seeing them, and this does not sit well with first year coach Donovan Duckie.

Minutes after dismissing promoted Rivoli United 3-0 in their Red Stripe Premier League game on Sunday at the WesPow Park to remain in second place- their best start in three years in the league- Duckie told the Jamaica Observer West, “We need more fans to come out and support this team.”

“This is a good team we have here, but they need the support of the fans from Montego Bay,” said Duckie, who took over the team in the off-season.

Those who stayed away on Sunday did not see the team win in their first game in the Premier League played at the country’s newest football venue, extending their home win record to two this season, in their first ever game against Rivoli in the Premier League.

They also missed a spectacular goal from Dino Williams, who scored two and set up the other, scored by Lesly St Fleur against an over-matched Rivoli team.

With his back to the goal and being pressured by goalkeeper Marlon Henry, who had come off his line to the edge of the 18-yard box to try and prevent the MBU striker from scoring, Williams kicked the ball over his and the goalkeeper’s head and watched as the ball bounced in front of the goal and into the top of the net.

Earlier, he scored in the 10th minute to give the home team the lead, then set up St Fleur for the second 14 minutes later.

It was not such a good debut for Evon Taylor, however, as the former national midfielder, who came on in the 62nd minute, was sent off less than 30 minutes later after a crunching tackle on Rivoli’s Devon Hodges.

Taylor was the centre of a three-team tug of war as he is on the books at Reno, but was loaned out to Harbour View last season, helping them to win the Premier League. He was, however, registered to MBU at the start of the season.

The league will take a three-week break until November 11, as the CONCACAF Girls Under 17 tournament gets underway next Wednesday here in Montego Bay.
