JADA PINKNGS SMITH’S BUZZ CUT
Actress Jada Pinkett Smith is no stranger to haute hair, but when the Wicked Wisdom band front-woman debuted her new buzzed two-toned ‘do on Facebook last month, she had her fans divided: some loved it, while others wondered what on earth she was thinking. However, when she graced the red carpet at an event in West Hollywood Monday, with the sides of her head shaved and dyed blond, and the rest of her tresses in a more natural colour and a pompadoured ponytail, there was no doubt in our minds that the look is smoking hot!
This one, we assure you, is not for everyone, but Pinkett Smith’s ultra feminine features are strong enough to carry off the style.
The asymmetric look is generally inspired by the fashion-conscious teens of the late ’80s and early ’90s, and similar styles have been spotted on the domes of daring celebs like Rosario Dawson, Rihanna, Cassie, Miley Cyrus and even Pinkett Smith’s daughter Willow. In fact, Jada’s look appears to be a more extreme version of the one Willow is currently rocking.
The edgy new ‘do is also reminiscent of Tina Turner’s outlandish appearance in the 1985 film Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.
The cut is surprisingly versatile, especially when paired with longer hair on top. With clever styling, a gal can completely camouflage her buzzed bits. Pinkett Smith, however, is making sure we notice by tying her hair up and flaunting her hairdresser’s handiwork!
Brave enough to try it yourself? We’ll show you how to Get the Look in seconds, armed only with a pair of scissors and some electric clippers.
TIP:
Jada Pinkett Smith went with a bleach-blond highlight for her buzzed sides. You can make the style your own by choosing to wear your favourite hue instead.
STEPS:
1 Create two deep side parts, from the crown of the head to the nape of the neck, sectioning off the middle with a hair elastic band.
2 Just behind the ears, create vertical parts to meet the deep parts created earlier, securing the back halves of the hair with elastic bands.
3 Take the remaining loose strands in the front and cut them as close to the scalp as possible with a pair of scissors.
4 Trim the sides even lower, evening them up with electric clippers. 5 Visit your stylist to highlight the newly buzzed sides with a bleached-blond look!
