The Nelson/Walker intrigue continues
The plot thickens race day after race day as the leading riders in the land compete for championship honours.
On Wednesday, Dane Nelson started the 11-race card one win in front of arch-rival Omar Walker. He then made a flying start, winning the first race on I’ve Been Chozen to extend his lead to two wins. Not to be outdone, Walker gave the perfect response. He rode two winners to join his rival. Racing fans at the track and those at the 60-odd offtrack betting parlours across the island were spellbound by this intense duel, cheering on their favourites and putting forward strong arguments as to who would eventually win the title and be crowned champion jockey 2013.
Nelson surged ahead after riding I’m A Believer to victory, only for Walker to respond with an easy win on Beast. That is how it ended on Wednesday, three winners for Walker and two for Nelson. The overall score, Dane Nelson 96 winners, Omar Walker 96 winners.
The agents for both jockeys are at their busiest trying to secure the best rides for their bosses on each race day. For tomorrow Nelson has secured eight rides and Walker nine. These are their scheduled mounts for the day.
