Spurs, Trailblazers stopped
BOTH the San Antonio Spurs (14-3) and the Portland Trailblazers (13-3) lost their win streaks this week as the Thunder and the Lakers impressed.
The Spurs lost their streak in Oklahoma, as Serge Ibaka scored 17 and had 11 rebounds in the Thunder’s 94-88 win. They would lose again after Thanksgiving, to another hot team, as James Harden and the Houston Rockets (13-5) came down south and left with the 112-106 win.
The Rockets themselves have a little six-game winning streak going, as Chandler Parsons continues to support the big two of Harden and Dwight Howard with his recent hot-hand.
The Trailblazers were also stopped at 11 on the same night as the Spurs when Goran Dragic went off with 31 points and 10 assists to give the Phoenix Suns (9-8) the 120-106 win.
The OKC Thunder are catching up to the top two as their six-game win streak has pulled them up to an 11-3 record ahead of the Clippers’ 12-6. Alongside the win over the Spurs, OKC also pulled off the notable 113-112 scalp in overtime against the Golden State Warriors (9-8). The Warriors and Thunder repeated their game-of-the-season contender from a little while back, with Russell Westbrook scoring three of his 34 points with a fading out-of-bounds game-winner.
Meanwhile, the Lakers have organised a neat 6-4 run in their last 10 to force themselves above .500 and into the final play-off spot. Wesley Johnson fired 27 points as Pau Gasol had 12 rebounds in a close 106-102 win for the Lakers over the Detroit Pistons in their post-Thanksgiving game.
King George?
TALK is already abound of Paul George for MVP as the Pacers went into a Sunday clash with the LA Clippers with a 15-1 record, which they extended to 16 by the end of the night.
Indiana went into the match on the back of a 93-73 blowout of the Washington Wizards, who hold a play-off position with their 8-9 record.
The Pacers showed their endurance in a sparkling 105-100 game against the Clippers.
The Miami Heat are not too far behind, with a 13-3 record after the reigning King James snatched 27 points, with 17 in the fourth quarter to stave off a Toronto Raptors (6-9) fightback. This came after James had gone back home to Cleveland earlier in the week.
The Heat also won that game on their way to a nine-game winning streak as James outscored the entire Cavalier starting line-up with 28 points.
The Atlanta Hawks is the only franchise other than the Heats and Pacers, with a .500 or above percentage in the East. Wall had 26 points, 12 assists and five steals in the Wizards’ 108-101 win over the Pacers.
They also lost to the Rockets this week, but gave their fans something to cheer about with an exemplary 17-point comeback to edge the Mavericks 88-87 after Al Horford hit the game-winning jumper to cap off his 17-point and 12-rebound double-double.
*Results up until Sunday night
