August Town condemn W’house to 2nd straight loss

TEN-MAN Waterhouse looked less than a top Red Stripe Premier League outfit, slipping to fourth spot after suffering their second consecutive defeat in second round action to cellar-placed August Town 0-1 at Drewsland on Sunday.

Nicholas Smith was the chief destroyer with a goal in minute 51. And, to add insult to injury, the Junior Francis-coached Waterhouse became a man short following the expulsion of skipper Rohan Amos, who was shown the red card by referee Courtney Campbell in the 74th minute for a high tackle on Larone Russell, who received a boot in his face.

Without Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson, the team’s chief marksman, Waterhouse struggled to test their opponents’ resolve. His replacement, the fast-moving Gary McIntosh, failed in his bid to get off a serious shot on his opponents’ goal and Weston Forrest, who got the best shot at August Town, muffed it big time.

Marshaled by two former Waterhouse standouts and then coaches, Baris Johnson and Gregory Hall, August Town made Waterhouse look as though they were the bottom-placed team as they failed to raise their game, and when they did, there was no one to finish.

Waterhouse were without no less than nine team members out on injury, including Nicholi Finlayson and Troy Reid and it was quite noticeable that neither Marvin Morgan nor Juvaune Benjamin, who came off the bench, was capable on the night, as was Romario Campbell, who started.

This gave August Town a distinct advantage, and they grabbed it with both hands to gain some well-needed points to the delight of coach Johnson, who said the result was “a work in progress”.

Francis lamented his weakened squad, but said “we did enough not to lose. Our main problem is that we are not scoring the chances which come our way. We should be back to full strength in our next game and then we will be able to get it right,” Francis predicted.
