INFORMATION reaching the Jamaica Observer indicates that 26-year-old, grade five teacher Paul Watson’s murder may have been a case of mistaken identity.

Watson was at a bar in the tough community of Bayshore Park in East Kingston two Saturdays ago when gunmen attacked and shot him and his friend Omar Campbell dead while three others were shot and injured.

“We are hearing that he may not have been the target but that he had a striking resemblance to a man who they wanted to take out,” a police source told the Sunday Observer.

Watson was shot in the head.

Police said that a turf war has made life for the law-abiding citizens in that community, sheer hell.

“One man wants complete donship of the whole area but some factions are resisting him. The man who they went for is one of the persons who is resisting so they may have killed the teacher by mistake. When I saw the picture of the teacher I thought it was the man they were after. That is how closely they resemble,” the cop said.

Watson’s death has left gaping holes in the hearts of his fellow teachers and students at his place of employ — Mona Primary School.

When the Sunday Observer visited the school last week school principal Fabian Mahabeer said that the school community was trying to find a way to come to terms with Watson’s untimely demise.

“These wounds will never fully heal but we are trying to heal. The children were counselled and we will have to find ways to handle our grief,” he said.

A post mortem has not yet been conducted on Watson’s body.
