I’ll always remember this…
THE year that was 2013 came to a close, leaving behind some truly memorable moments.
In review, the birth of the royal baby, Jamaica’s stellar performance at IAAF World Championships, the developments in entertainer’s Vybz Kartel murder trial and Tessanne Chin’s mind-blowing victory on The Voice were some of the most noted happenings.
On the flip side, however, the negative trending relationship between Jamaica and Trinidad, a booming lottery scam industry and the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela put a damper on things, making it indeed a bitter-sweet year.

What was your most memorable 2013 moment?
Well, from what I can remember, the most memorable 2013 moment was Rosie in the news interview talking about her ‘tutty gran dressa’. It was rather hilarious and amazing to see how the Jamaican media can and will use almost anything, no matter how serious, for entertainment purposes. Tessanne’s victory on The Voice also stood out for me.

I would have to say when Alkaline tattooed his eyeball. Its the first time I’ve ever seen someone do something that bizarre.

Paula Deen’s racial slurs stood out to me. It stands out in my memory as it had struck me that even in 2013 there were still people with strong opinions of the black race. Not only Deen, but when browsing online during the entire ordeal there were quite a few people who found nothing wrong with her ‘Southern-themed’ parties that only had black waiters and so on.

The opening of the biennial art exhibition at the National Gallery of Jamaica and the birth of Fly Jamaica Airways were memorable to me. Since Air Jamaica was sold, some Jamaicans were a little upset about it, so the birth of Fly Jamaica brought back the kind of hope for treatment persons were accustomed to with brand Jamaica.

Tessanne Chin winning The Voice, of course is hands down my most memorable moment of 2013. It was really one of those ‘proud to be a Jamaican’ moments in every sense. Also, the IAAF World Championship was no let-down in the performances of the usual suspects: Bolt and Shelly-Ann. What took my breath away literally from me cheering like mad was the brilliant anchor leg executed by Calabar’s very own Javon ‘Donkey Man’ Francis, which made me an even more proud old boy. RABALAC! Come to think of it, his and Tessanne’s achievements are both number one in my book.

Well, there were a lot of memorable moments! I’d have to say the two that stood out to me most were Tessanne’s victory on The Voice of course and Andrew Holness’ victory over Audley Shaw. I did not expect either!
