Kuzi Kz thinks ‘Mix Personality’ will define solo career
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Former lead singer of the group ASK, dancehall/reggae artiste Kuzi Kz, now based in Sweden, is looking to establish his solo career in Jamaica.
In a recent interview with OBSERVER ONLINE, the artiste, who describes his musical style as “conscious with a little variety, but not hardcore”, said he feels his new 15-track album ‘Mix Personality’ will give him the push he needs on the island.
Set to be launched on January 18 on the lawns of Corner Shop in Above Rocks, St Catherine, Kuzi Kz says more work was put into creating his ‘Mix Personality’ album than his first solo album, ‘Live and Love’, which was released in 2011 after he moved to Sweden.
“I did a first album ‘Live and Love’, which I admit wasn’t well put together,” Kuzi Kz told OBSERVER ONLINE. “But this one (Mix Personality) is definitely better,” he said, adding that his first album did really well on Itunes and in Sweden.
Asked the reason for wanting to re-establish himself in Jamaica instead of trying to focus on Sweden and the rest of Europe, Kuzi Kz said that he is “pushing my thing in Sweden and the whole of Europe, but I still need to have a presence in Jamaica.”
“I have been in the music business for years, but even when you’re in the business, when you’ve been out of the sight of people and you are coming back, you’re a young artiste to them,” Kuzi Kz said about the challenge he is now facing in getting a foothold on the Jamaican landscape.
He told OBSERVER ONLINE though that his single ‘Di Gyal Dem Say’, one of the tracks on his Mix Personality album, is doing really well right now and the feedback he has received so far has been positive.
“Mix Personality has songs for di girls dem but it’s not derogatory or disrespectful, more like the smooth version,” Kuzi Kz, whose given name is Oneil Burke, told OBSERVER ONLINE. “It has songs that talk about my music and my life experiences so far.”
