MONTEGO BAY, St James — The name Seba will return to St James club football for the first time in four years this afternoon when Seba Football Club takes on Lilliput Football Club in the second game of a Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knock-out triple-header at Jarrett Park. The triple-header starts at 2:00 pm with the Seba match slated for 4:00 pm.

Seba FC played under the name North Gully Ambassadors for the past three years but decided to use their original name this season and applied to the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) for the name change.

The original team Seba United, which was established in 1972, once ruled the roost in local and national club football, but after making a return to the Premier League three years ago, the new owners changed the name to Montego Bay United in an effort to broaden the support base. It was then that most of the Seba United players banded together to form the North Gully Ambassadors.

According to the rules of the JFF, after a name change is effected, no club or any other entity is allowed to use the old name for a minimum of five seasons. Most of the players forming the nucleus of Seba FC squad represented North Gully Ambassadors.

Commenting on the return of Seba to the western football landscape, Gregory Daley, president of the St James Football Association, said he was very happy with the development.

“The name Seba is strong, and brings with it a sense of identity which gives to the youth in the area something positive to be indentified with. The executive and myself are in support of the name change and hopefully it will get more persons involved with football,” Daley said.
