WALKING miles and miles to get to his love was no bother for Stephen Wright, who when he was young, would walk from Sanguinetti in Clarendon to deep rural Manchester some 20 miles away to spend the night with his girl.

“When mi a young man mi walk all 20 miles through rock stone go where mi woman deh,” Wright told All Woman in a recent interview. He is now 104 years old.

“Because that time we nuh know car. One of the nights I was going over there and rain start wet mi,” he laughed. “But mi nah turn back, you know. When mi go there, is one of her slip mi sleep inna ’cause mi clothes wet up!”

I climbed a tall coconut tree to get jelly for her. When me climb the jelly tree wasp back me up there and me have to slide down and rub off my chest. All my jeans feel like it was on fire! Yeah, it did dread, man.

We made love in her dad’s room with him working just on the outside, totally oblivious. If he had caught me I would certainly be dead.

I stuck my tongue in places it’s really not supposed to go. That’s a big risk ’cause if she did go talk I couldn’t walk road again! Never again would I do that.

I paid my money go foreign to be with her. It was freezing cold. So it was a big risk if you ask me, because one day I was walking and I could literally feel my scrotum retracting. I started fretting and wondering if I would ever be able to use them again. Plus when I returned to Jamaica my finances were greatly depleted because I stayed for a month.

Maybe it was not even to satisfy the woman so much as it was to satisfy myself, to be honest. But in the middle of the night when war hot in the 80s, I would go to places like Fletcher’s Land, Arnett Gardens, Rockfort and Tivoli to look for woman. One night men draw down on me and couple friends and rob my friends, but they left me. That was all because of woman. Looking back you realise it was some big risk because anything move in those days is a gunshot, as long as the men in the area didn’t know you.

I ate her stewed peas! My mother always told me not to eat stewed peas from any woman, but I did, because I really checked for the girl. Well, now we’re married and I can’t leave, so maybe mom was right.
